SPARK® TSL Features in the NHS 75 Publication
3 minute read | 14/12/2023
On the 5th July 2023, the UK celebrated a remarkable milestone - the 75th anniversary of the National Health Service (NHS).
Born in 1948, the NHS has been a symbol of hope, care, and innovation for millions of people across England. Over the years, it has evolved and adapted, setting standards for healthcare systems around the world.
SPARK® TSL strives to elevate patient engagement and enhance staff efficiencies through innovative technology solutions such as the free SPARK® Media web-based platform, which is accessible via hospital WiFi. It is currently helping over 80 UK Trusts and supports millions of patients each day, by keeping them engaged with links to games, catch-up and live TV, hospital radio, BBC resources, health videos, and Trust information.
As we celebrate the legacy of the NHS, this blog reflects on our shared commitment to advancing healthcare and what our involvement truly means.
The NHS at 75
75 years ago, the NHS was founded with a revolutionary mission: to provide healthcare services that are free for all at the point of delivery. It marked a profound shift in the way healthcare was provided and accessed in the UK.
The NHS has been treating over a million people a day in England alone, offering a wide range of medical services, from emergency care to planned surgeries, vaccinations to mental health support.
A special service was held on Wednesday 5th September 2023 at Westminster Abbey to celebrate the launch of the book, along with the remarkable milestone and devoted work of NHS staff, charities, and volunteers over the years both past and present. We were lucky enough to sponsor and be part of the memorable event, where our Director of Business Development, James Morriss, and Operations Manager, Richard Turton, attended the celebration to represent SPARK® TSL.
SPARK® TSL's Contribution to the 75th Anniversary Book
As a leading health tech company, we are committed to enhance patient care and we feel that by raising awareness in such a prestigious feature we will not only celebrate the NHS' remarkable journey, but also emphasise our mission to deliver cutting-edge tech solutions to positively impact patients and staff.
Our inclusion stands as a testament to our dedication to revolutionising healthcare through meaningful tech. The beautifully presented hardback book was produced in partnership with leading publisher St James’s House, and was carefully written and constructed by a team of academics and industry experts.
James Morriss, Director of Business Development, says: “Over the coming year, SPARK® TSL will be forming partnerships with developers who have great solutions – from meal ordering apps, personal health records, to virtual ward rounds. Our aim is to offer trusts a catalogue of time and cost saving apps that can be accessed via our WiFi infrastructure and bedside units, and to put information into the hands of patients to support discharge and recovery.
“Our WiFi infrastructure and Bedside units are in use across over 75% of NHS Trusts,” says Morriss. “Because of this, we are well placed to help in the delivery of technology and information that can make a real difference.”
Our guest-access WiFi, known as SPARK® Connect, contains an entertainment and information platform called SPARK® Media: Lite, which is free to the user. This platform can support Trusts to signpost patients to information and resources,” says Morriss. “Specific examples include signposting patients away from the Emergency Department and informing them of other services such as urgent care centres that can be accessed locally.”
“Working together with our NHS clients, we firmly believe that we can make a tangible, sustainable difference to patient outcomes and address some of the pressing issues faced today and in the future.”
