Free TV For Patients in Honour of Queen Elizabeth II
1 minute read | 14/09/2022
Following the devastating news of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, on the 10th September the Government announced the date of Her Majesty’s state funeral.
It has been declared a national Bank Holiday to allow individuals, businesses, and other organisations to pay their respects and commemorate the Queen's reign, while marking the final day of the 10-day period of national mourning.
The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will be held at 11am on Monday 19th September. We feel it is only right to offer free TV to patients on this day, including the day before, since people are unable to watch and pay their respects from the comfort of their own home or be with their loved ones at this sad time.
WiFi SPARK is therefore partnering with NHS Trusts across the UK to implement free TV on the 18th and 19th September.
53,500 Hospedia Ltd units in the NHS will have free TV for 48 hours across all TV channels and several Trusts have kindly extended this offering for days after, including NHS Lothian, University Hospital of Coventry & Warwickshire, South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and many, many more.
Free TV was offered to patients during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which proved to boost morale and mental well-being as people were able to join in to watch such a monumental event.
It’s only right that patients are able to witness yet another historical and moving moment, to pay their respects with the rest of the nation.
Majority will not have known life without Her Majesty as our Head of State and during her 70-year reign, she was a dedicated public servant and a much-respected figure, who supported the NHS for majority of those years.
We are thankful that we are able to work with the NHS to offer such service to patients, as it will mean so much to many.
We hope that free TV to patients will continue in future, as the goal is to abolish the patient-pays model by 2024, with the help and support of NHS Trusts.
